Back in 2007, we travelled to Mai Chau, a rural area that is 4 hours from Hanoi. It was summertime, and Mai Chau was just as sublime then as it is today. Corn and rice paddies stretch as far as the eye can see. Fresh streams run among the bamboo forest. Tall green mountains, and lush valleys. Occasionally, you will meet Thai people carrying tall baskets of produce that they bring to the local markets. And if you are into Vietnamese food, Mai Chau has some of the very best you can try. Here, everything is fresh. The fish from the Da River, the bamboo shoots from the forest - all locally caught or foraged.

Mai Chau can easily be added to your itinerary, and you'll find it featured in our 'Best of Vietnam' and 'Vietnam Iconic Food Tour'. It can also be combined with Ninh Binh and Pu Luong Nature Reserve, which we consider the best places to visit if you're into nature, trekking, and rural Vietnam.

Hanoi, where we are from, is always special. A warren of narrow streets crowded with people, an overflow of motorbikes, cars, merchants, locals, and tourists. The sidewalks are choked with parked motorbikes, cute little souvenir shops, and small restaurants. People eat at all hours of the day and night, and the air is redolent with the mouth-watering aroma of BBQ fare, particularly Bun Cha. While Hanoi serves as the starting point for almost all of our tours, you can also start from Ho Chi Minh City (or Saigon) and work your way up to the North, if you prefer.

Central Vietnam, mainly Hue and Hoi An, are must-see places for many of our clients, especially if you're into history. Founded in 1687, Hue has always been considered the soul of Vietnam - the center for scholars, poets, philosophers, and emperors. Here, you can visit the famous royal tombs of the Kings of the Nguyen Dynasty, designed by the emperors themselves before their deaths.

Hoi An, which you've probably heard of, was once voted the 'best city on earth' by readers of Wanderlust Magazine. We don't believe words can capture how special Hoi An is. The cobbled streets, the distinctive yellow shops, the colorful lanterns, the aroma from the incenses that fill the streets, and delicious Vietnamese Banh Mi that you'll find at every corner all add to Hoi An's charm. You'll see Hue and/or Hoi An featured in almost all of our itineraries, from Essential Vietnam to Vietnam Highlights.

Southern Vietnam exudes so much charm and hospitality, yet surprisingly remains under many travelers' radar. Ho Chi Minh City, formerly known as Saigon, is the economic heart of Vietnam and the main hub of the southern region, bursting with life! We can take you out at night for a street food tour where you can join the locals on the famous plastic tables which are small but can accommodate a plethora of plates that fit snugly together, from fried snails in butter and garlic, grilled scallops, steamed clams with lemongrass, to grilled oysters with spring onions!

And of course, a visit to Southern Vietnam is not complete without a trip to the Mekong Delta, famous for its fruit farms, flower orchards, labyrinthine canals, and delightful floating markets. If you have time, spend a night at Victoria Can Tho, an Indochine-styled hotel located on the banks of the Hau River, an ideal base for exploring the floating markets that the Mekong Delta is so famous for.
