Vietnam: December Weather

December is one of the best months to visit Vietnam.

By December the weather has improved greatly in central Vietnam with much less rain. Lower temperatures with blue, clear skies and plenty of sunshine makes it an ideal time to visit south Vietnam.

In the north, there are lots of sunny days to be enjoyed however temperatures will start drop towards the end of the month, especially in the region of Sapa and Ha Giang

North Vietnam

December is winter time in the north and one of the best months to visit this region.

Hanoi: Sunny, dry weather with cooler temperatures.

Ha Long: Sunny, dry & very pleasant weather though it can be a bit too cold for swimming. It can also get a bit misty in the morning.

Sapa: Dry and chilly weather which makes longer trekking tour much more enjoyable. Temperatures tend to drop at end of the month however.

Mai Chau: It’s winter time in Mai Chau. Expect crisp, fresh air with cool temperatures.

Central Vietnam

Rain starts to lessen down in central Vietnam in December, making it one of the better months to visit this region. Expect very pleasant weather in Hue and Hoi An. Nha Trang sometimes sees rainfall and storms but this continues to improve towards end of the month.

Hue: the rain has now eased up in Hue. Great time of the year to visit royal tombs, mossy pagodas and monasteries now that the weather is much more pleasant.

Hoi An: much less rain with pleasant weather, especially at end of the month. Cooler temperature somehow pairs well with the ambience of the Old Town and with fewer tourists this month you can have more of this beautiful town for yourself.

Nha Trang
: Pleasant weather with some rain. Nha Trang is however much less crowded this time of year, making it an ideal time to visit if you prefer peace and quiet.

Da Lat: chilly & dry weather, especially at night. Be sure to bring a jumper with you if you visit Da Lat this month.

South Vietnam

December continue November’s weather pattern and is one of the best months to visit south Vietnam.

With the intense heat now gone, the weather is getting much more pleasant. Southern beaches are at their best with clear, blue skies and plenty of sunshine.

Ho Chi Minh City:  Sunny, dry and pleasant weather. Definitely a great month to explore this vibrant city on foot.

Mekong Delta: Very pleasant weather.  Mekong Delta is at its best this month when the rice fields are flooded and the fruit orchards are bursting with colour. It is a great time of the year to explore the waterways now that the canals, rivers, channels, wetlands are brim-full.

Phu Quoc: Sunny and dry weather with  calm, turquoise clear waters.

Con Dao: The dry season starts in Con Dao from this month. Expect warm, dry weather. However it can get a bit windy at times and the sea can get choppy.
